Book Michael Chang

Michael Chang is a retired American tennis pro and coach who became a champion while still a teenager. He became the youngest man ever to win a singles major when he captured the 1989 French Open at 17 years and 109 days, and he was also the first player of Asian descent, man or woman, to win a Grand Slam singles title. That same year he represented the United States Davis Cup team. A junior prodigy, he won a national title at 12, later beat Pete Sampras for another junior hard court crown and defeated Jim Courier to take the prestigious US Nationals 18-and-under event in Kalamazoo. As a pro he won 34 tour singles titles, seven of them at the Masters level, reached three other major finals and climbed to world No. 2 in 1996, helping lead a golden generation of American men alongside Sampras, Courier and Andre Agassi. He was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 2008 and went on to coach Kei Nishikori from 2014 to 2025, and now works with Learner Tien. Chang brings inspiring lessons on perseverance and preparation.
