Book Ellen MacArthur

Dame Ellen MacArthur is an English sailing great turned circular economy pioneer. On February 7, 2005, she set a new world record for the fastest solo voyage around the globe, a mark that stood until early 2008. She first captured public attention in 2001 by finishing second in the Vendée Globe solo, non-stop round-the-world race aboard Kingfisher; at 24 she was the youngest sailor to complete it, and her finishing time remained the women's single-handed non-stop monohull circumnavigation record for twenty years. In June 2000 she crossed the Atlantic east to west from Plymouth to Newport, Rhode Island, in under 15 days, still the fastest such passage by a solo woman. She later led the three-person BT Team Ellen. After stepping away from professional racing in 2010, she launched the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, which works with businesses and educators to advance a circular economy. Her honors include being made a Dame in 2005, the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Helen Rollason Award in 2001, the Princess of Asturias Award for International Cooperation and France's Legion of Honour. She speaks on resilience and rethinking the economy.
