Book Melinda Doolittle
Melinda Doolittle is an American singer who captured audiences with her powerhouse soul voice on the sixth season of American Idol, finishing in third place. Before stepping into the spotlight, she spent years as a professional backup singer for an impressive list of artists, including Michael McDonald, Kirk Franklin, Aaron Neville, Alabama and BeBe and CeCe Winans. Doolittle auditioned in Memphis on a whim while accompanying friends, singing Stevie Wonder's "For Once in My Life" and winning over all three judges. During the semifinals she earned rave reviews for Aretha Franklin's "Sweet Sweet Baby (Since You’ve Been Gone)" and a stunning "My Funny Valentine" that the judges hailed as the vocal of the night, and Simon Cowell dubbed her "a little tiger" after "I'm a Woman." She advanced to the Top 12 in March 2007 and became a fan favorite for her humble warmth and flawless technique. After the show she released the album Coming Back to You (2009) and later Lift Every Voice: The Historic Songs of James Weldon Johnson (2013). Doolittle brings rich, gospel-rooted vocals and genuine charm to any stage.
