Book Mary Black

Mary Black is the Irish singer celebrated for her luminous voice and her gift for interpreting both traditional folk songs and contemporary material. Born in Dublin in 1955 into a musical family, with a fiddler father and a singing mother, she started performing traditional Irish songs at eight and later sang with her siblings in small Dublin clubs. In 1975 she joined the folk band General Humbert, touring Europe and recording two albums. Working with musician and producer Declan Sinnott, she released her solo debut, Mary Black, in the early 1980s, and she also toured Europe and the U.S. with the traditional band De Dannan, whose album with her, Anthem, won Irish Album of the Year. Her solo catalog grew with Collected, Without the Fanfare (1985), By the Time It Gets Dark (1987), No Frontiers (1989), Babes in the Wood (1991), The Holy Ground (1993), Circus (1995), Shine (1997) and Speaking With the Angel (1999), later joined by Full Tide (2005), Stories From the Steeples (2011) and Orchestrated (2019). A major recording artist in Ireland, she brings intimate storytelling and soaring vocals to the concert stage.
