Book M83

M83 is a French electronic music project formed in Antibes in 1999 and named after a distant galaxy. It began as a duo of Anthony Gonzalez and Nicolas Fromageau, and Gonzalez has since led it as songwriter, singer and the one permanent member, recording largely alone with a rotating cast of guest players. The self-titled debut M83 (2001) was followed by the acclaimed Dead Cities, Red Seas & Lost Ghosts (2003), Before the Dawn Heals Us (2005) and Saturdays = Youth (2008). The global breakthrough came with the double album Hurry Up, We're Dreaming (2011), which earned a Grammy nomination and produced the soaring single "Midnight City". Later albums include Junk (2016), DSVII (2019), Fantasy (2023) and I Wrote You a Letter (2026). Signed to Mute Records, M83 draws on dream pop, shoegaze, new wave and ambient textures, and Gonzalez has also remixed artists such as Bloc Party and Goldfrapp and scored film soundtracks. On stage, M83 build lush walls of synths, guitars and drums into cinematic, euphoric sets that turn widescreen studio recordings into a big communal live experience.
