LCD Soundsystem is the Brooklyn band led by James Murphy whose single "Tonite" won the Grammy for Best Dance Recording in 2018, one of five career nominations. Murphy formed the group in 2002 around his own DFA Records label, and the lineup includes Nancy Whang, Pat Mahoney, Tyler Pope, Al Doyle and Korey Richey. Their debut single, "Losing My Edge," preceded the 2005 self-titled album, which earned a Grammy nomination for Best Electronic/Dance Album, as did "Daft Punk Is Playing at My House" for Best Dance Recording. Sound of Silver (2007) brought another Electronic/Dance Album nomination, and This Is Happening (2010) gave them their first top-ten album in the United States. In 2011 they bowed out with a sold-out farewell show at Madison Square Garden, captured in the film Shut Up and Play the Hits and the live album The Long Goodbye. The band reunited in 2015, signed with Columbia and released American Dream (2017), their first number-one album in the US. Since then they have staged extended concert residencies. Their music mixes live instruments with analog synthesizers and drum machines, drawing on post-punk, electronica and dance.
