Book Larry McCray
Born in Magnolia, Arkansas, bluesman Larry McCray is known for searing guitar work and a big, soulful voice. After high school he worked on a General Motors assembly line before cutting his debut album, Ambition, in a friend's basement studio in Detroit for Pointblank Records, and he was soon on the road with labelmate Albert Collins. His follow-up, Delta Hurricane (1993), was produced by noted blues producer Mike Vernon. In 1999 he covered Bob Dylan's "All Along the Watchtower" for the tribute album Tangled Up in Blues, and in 2000 he launched his own label, Magnolia Records, opening with Believe It. Other releases include Born to Play the Blues (1998), Blues Is My Business (2001), the concert set Live on Interstate 75 (2006), The Gibson Sessions and Heartbreak City (2025). At the King Biscuit Blues Festival in 2015 he was honored with the Sonny Payne Award for Blues Excellence. His 2022 album Blues Without You, released on Joe Bonamassa's KTBA Records, earned a Blues Music Awards nomination for Best Contemporary Blues Album and was named the top album of 2022 by Blues Rock Review. On stage, McCray delivers fiery, heartfelt electric blues.
