Book Hot Chip
Hot Chip are the London synth-pop band whose second album, The Warning (2006), earned a Mercury Prize nomination and whose single "Ready for the Floor" was nominated for the Grammy for Best Dance Recording. The group started in 2000 as a bedroom project for Alexis Taylor and Joe Goddard, who met as schoolmates in Putney, and after the EPs Mexico and San Frandisco and the debut album Coming On Strong (2004) it grew into a five-piece with Al Doyle, Felix Martin and Owen Clarke joining the founders. The Warning, home to "Over and Over," also received a Shortlist Music Prize nomination. Made in the Dark (2008) brought "Ready for the Floor," and later albums include One Life Stand (2010), In Our Heads (2012), Why Make Sense? (2015), A Bath Full of Ecstasy (2019) and Freakout/Release (2022). Drawing on house, disco and electronic pop, the band pairs heartfelt songwriting with dancefloor grooves. Its members are busy outside the group too: Doyle has played with LCD Soundsystem, Goddard records as one half of The 2 Bears, and Taylor releases solo albums. On stage, Hot Chip trade instruments constantly and turn their songs into extended, euphoric dance sets.
