Book Underworld

Underworld are an electronic music group from Britain, founded in Cardiff, Wales, in 1987 and led by longtime creative partners Karl Hyde and Rick Smith. The pair first worked together in the late 1970s in the Kraftwerk-influenced Screen Gemz, then in Freur, whose album Doot-Doot came out in 1983. As Underworld they signed to Sire Records in 1988 and released two funk and synth-pop albums, Underneath the Radar (1988) and Change the Weather (1989), and supported Eurythmics on a stadium tour. The group then reinvented itself around dance music and techno, reaching a new peak with Dubnobasswithmyheadman (1994), Second Toughest in the Infants (1996) and Beaucoup Fish (1999), plus the club staples "Born Slippy Nuxx" and "Dark & Long (Dark Train)". Underworld are celebrated for long, progressive, atmospheric tracks, Hyde's fragmented stream-of-consciousness vocals and an electrifying live show, and their influence reaches across generations of electronic artists. Their music has also appeared widely in film and television soundtracks and scores, and they have received a Grammy nomination. An Underworld set builds hypnotic grooves into euphoric peaks, making them a headline-worthy draw for audiences who love electronic music at full volume.
