Book Heiruspecs

Heiruspecs is a live hip-hop band from the Midway neighborhood of Saint Paul, Minnesota, whose name is a deliberate misspelling of haruspex, a Roman term for a diviner. The members formed the group in 1997 as students at St. Paul Central High School, where they met in a studio recording arts program and developed their sound through freestyle sessions. Instead of relying on samples and turntables, Heiruspecs play everything live, earning comparisons to The Roots and a reputation built more on electrifying shows than on records; City Pages named them the Twin Cities' best live artist in 2004. Their catalog includes the early releases Live from the Studio and Antidisestablishmetabolism, later collected on 10 Years Strong in 2007, along with Small Steps (2002), A Tiger Dancing (2004), the self-titled Heiruspecs (2008), Night Falls (2014) and Pretty Random But What Happened to the Heiruspecs (2022). They have shared stages with acts from the Minnesota label Rhymesayers Entertainment and once spent half of each year on tour. A Heiruspecs set delivers upbeat, funky grooves, sharp rhymes and real-instrument energy rooted in the Twin Cities music scene.
