Book Gad Elmaleh
Gad Elmaleh is a Moroccan-Canadian comic, actor, writer and director who became a comedy superstar in France before winning over American audiences. Born in Casablanca in 1971, he grew up speaking Moroccan Arabic and French, moved to Canada at 17 and studied political science in Montreal before heading to Paris in 1992 to train in drama at Cours Florent with Isabelle Nanty. His first one-man show, Décalages, premiered at the Palais des Glaces in 1997 and drew on his own journey from Morocco to Montreal to Paris, launching a career that saw him voted the funniest person in France. On screen he starred in hits including Coco, Priceless and La Doublure, and appeared in The Round Up (2010) and Woody Allen's Midnight in Paris (2011). Elmaleh toured the United States nationally in 2015 and 2018, performing in English, and starred in the 2019 Netflix series Huge in France. He has been honored by France's Order of Arts and Letters and in 2015 Quebec made him a knight of its National Order. His stand-up is warm, observational and bilingual in spirit, mining the comedy of culture clashes, family and life as an outsider.
