Book Gabriel Kahane

Gabriel Kahane is an American composer and singer-songwriter who moves fluidly between indie songwriting and concert music, often compared with Sufjan Stevens and Rufus Wainwright, both of whom he has worked with. His first concert work, the song cycle Craigslistlieder, set real Craigslist ads to music and remains his best-known piece. He released his self-titled album, Gabriel Kahane, on Family Records in 2008, followed by Where Are the Arms (2011), made with regular collaborators Rob Moose, Matt Johnson and Casey Foubert. For The Ambassador (2014), he wrote songs inspired by ten Los Angeles addresses, voicing characters both real and imagined; Tony winners John Tiffany and Christine Jones brought it to the stage in Brooklyn, and NPR Music named "Empire Liquor Mart (9127 S. Figueroa St.)" a 2014 favorite. Following the 2016 election, he took a cross-country train journey that became Book of Travelers (2018). His wide-ranging catalog also includes February House (2012), The Fiction Issue (2016), emergency shelter intake form (2020), Magnificent Bird (2022), Heirloom (2025) and Elevator Songs (2026). Kahane's performances pair virtuosic piano and guitar with wry, deeply literate storytelling.
