Book Eric B. & Rakim
Eric B. & Rakim is a hip-hop pairing from Long Island that came together in 1986: DJ Eric B. on the turntables and Rakim on the mic. They first won acclaim with their 1987 debut album Paid in Full, which included versions of the singles "Eric B. Is President" and the title track. They followed with Follow the Leader in 1988, Let the Rhythm Hit 'Em in 1990 and Don't Sweat the Technique in 1992, four studio albums in all. Rakim is regarded as a pioneer of complex, internal-rhyme lyricism whose smooth, calm delivery changed the way rappers write, while Eric B.'s turntable work and sampling gave the records a tough, funky backbone. The duo remains a touchstone of the golden age of hip-hop, and their classic tracks still move crowds in concert, where Rakim's commanding flow meets old-school DJ skill.
