Book El Ten Eleven

El Ten Eleven is an American post-rock duo from Los Angeles, made up of drummer Tim Fogarty and bassist-composer Kristian Dunn, who formed the band in Silver Lake in 2002. Their signature approach layers doubleneck guitar-bass or fretless bass through loops and effects pedals over live drums, building intricate instrumental pieces that sound far bigger than two players. The band takes its name from the Lockheed L-1011 TriStar airliner. Their self-titled debut, El Ten Eleven (2004), drew wide praise, and Spin named them its Band of the Day in 2005, the year they began years of near-constant touring across the country. Their music reached new listeners through Gary Hustwit's design documentaries Helvetica, Objectified and Urbanized. A deep catalog followed, including Every Direction Is North (2007), These Promises Are Being Videotaped (2008), It's Still Like a Secret (2010), Transitions (2012), Fast Forward (2015), Banker's Hill (2018), the Tautology series (2020), New Year's Eve (2022), Valley of Fire (2023) and Nowhere Faster (2026). Live, El Ten Eleven is a marvel to watch, as two musicians conjure cinematic, hypnotic soundscapes in real time.
