Book David Garibaldi

David Garibaldi is an American drummer whose deep, intricate grooves with the Oakland band Tower of Power helped define the sound of funk drumming. He joined the band in July 1970 after freelancing around the Bay Area, and his sixteenth-note-driven patterns became a touchstone for generations of players. In the mid-1970s he branched out, recording, performing and writing with Gino Vannelli, Patti Austin, Natalie Cole, Boz Scaggs, Jermaine Jackson, Deniece Williams and the jazz group Yellowjackets, before returning to Tower of Power in 1998. Garibaldi has described his approach as taking what he loved from a handful of favorite drummers and blending it into a voice all his own. Rolling Stone placed him at number 46 on its 100 Greatest Drummers of All Time list, and he was inducted into the Percussive Arts Society Hall of Fame in 2012. A dedicated educator, he wrote the instructional books Future Sounds and The Funky Beat, produced educational DVDs, released the drum loop collection Tower of Funk, and wrote a feature column for Modern Drummer. Garibaldi brings unmistakable pocket, clinic-level insight and true funk pedigree.
