Book Belle & Sebastian

Belle and Sebastian are the Glasgow indie pop band led by songwriter Stuart Murdoch, formed in 1996 and admired for literate, melodic songs that have drawn comparisons with the Smiths and Nick Drake. Their debut, Tigermilk, began as a college project: Murdoch's demos were picked up by Stow College's Electric Honey label and cut largely live in three days. Signing with Jeepster Records the same year, the band released If You're Feeling Sinister, now regarded as a landmark of 1990s indie music, and followed with The Boy With the Arab Strap and Fold Your Hands Child, You Walk Like a Peasant. Dear Catastrophe Waitress (2003) and The Life Pursuit (2006) brought a brighter, more polished sound, while Write About Love and Girls in Peacetime Want to Dance pushed into dance rhythms. The group has released a dozen studio albums, with A Bit of Previous (2022) and Late Developers (2023) arriving back to back. Long-serving members including guitarist Stevie Jackson and keyboardist Chris Geddes give the band a deep, devoted following on both sides of the Atlantic, and they continue to record and tour three decades on.
