Book Bartees Strange

Bartees Strange is a genre-blurring American musician who now calls Baltimore home; he was born in the English town of Ipswich and grew up in Mustang, Oklahoma. After time in the Brooklyn post-hardcore group Stay Inside from 2016 to 2018, he stepped out on his own with the acoustic folk EP Magic Boy (2017), credited to Bartees & the Strange Fruit. In 2020 he drew wide attention with Say Goodbye to Pretty Boy, a set of reworked songs by the National, and Stereogum named him an Artist to Watch that year. His first full-length album, Live Forever (2020), fused indie rock, hip-hop and jazz and earned strong reviews. Farm to Table (2022) followed to critical acclaim, and Horror arrived in 2025 alongside the EP Shy Bairns Get Nowt. He has also released Live at Studio 4 (2021). A road-tested performer, he spent 2021 and 2022 opening for Phoebe Bridgers, Lucy Dacus, Courtney Barnett, Car Seat Headrest and the National, building a reputation for dynamic shows that swing from quiet, intimate moments to full-throttle guitar rock. His sets reward audiences who love adventurous, emotionally direct songwriting.
