Book Abigail Washburn
Abigail Washburn is an American singer and clawhammer banjo player who blends Appalachian old-time music with influences drawn from her years in China. She performs solo, with the Sparrow Quartet and the old-time band Uncle Earl, with the experimental group The Wu Force, and in a duo with her husband, banjo great Béla Fleck. Their joint album Béla Fleck & Abigail Washburn (2014) won the Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Folk Album, one of her two career Grammy nominations. After placing second at the 2004 MerleFest songwriting contest with "Rockabye Dixie," she released her solo debut Song of the Traveling Daughter (2005), produced by Fleck, followed by City of Refuge (2011), Echo in the Valley (2017) and Wu Fei & Abigail Washburn (2020). With Uncle Earl she toured for five years and recorded She Waits for the Night and Waterloo, TN, the latter produced by John Paul Jones. The Sparrow Quartet toured Tibet in 2006 at the US government's request and played Beijing during the 2008 Olympics. Washburn sings in English and Mandarin, offering a warm, storytelling concert that bridges cultures.
