Book 3 Doors Down

3 Doors Down are the Mississippi rock band whose 2000 debut single, "Kryptonite," reached number three on the Billboard Hot 100 and earned a Grammy nomination. Brad Arnold, who sang lead and originally played drums, formed the group in Escatawpa in 1996 with guitarist Matt Roberts and bassist Todd Harrell, and he wrote "Kryptonite" in a high school math class at 15. The debut album, The Better Life (2000), was one of the year's biggest records and added the Hot 100 entries "Loser" and "Be Like That." Away From the Sun (2002) opened in the Billboard 200 top ten and produced two top-five Hot 100 singles, "When I'm Gone" and "Here Without You." Seventeen Days (2005) and the self-titled 3 Doors Down (2008), which included "It's Not My Time," both debuted at number one on the Billboard 200. Time of My Life (2011) reached number three, and Us and the Night followed in 2016. Blending post-grunge, hard rock and alternative rock with direct, emotional songwriting, the band became a fixture of rock radio throughout the 2000s. Arnold died in February 2026 at 47 after a battle with kidney cancer.
