Book Violent Femmes
Violent Femmes is a folk punk band from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, centered on founding members Gordon Gano on guitar and lead vocals and Brian Ritchie on bass and backing vocals. Multi-instrumentalist Blaise Garza joined in 2004 and a drummer, John Sparrow, joined later. The group's self-titled debut album in 1983 delivered the college-radio staples "Blister in the Sun" and more, and they have since made ten studio albums, including Hallowed Ground in 1984, The Blind Leading the Naked in 1986, 3 in 1988, Why Do Birds Sing? in 1991, New Times in 1994, Rock!!!!! in 1995, Freak Magnet in 1998, We Can Do Anything in 2016 and Hotel Last Resort in 2019. Their acoustic-driven sound is fast, nervy and quirky, with Gano's distinctive yelping voice. Violent Femmes shows are lively, sing-along affairs.
