Book Syesha Mercado
Syesha Mercado is a Florida-born singer, songwriter, actress and model who became a household name as the third-place finisher on the seventh season of American Idol. She auditioned in Miami with Aretha Franklin's "Think," earning an unanimous yes from all three judges, and went on to impress viewers week after week with her soulful range. Before Idol, she competed on The One: Making a Music Star and won the Florida Super Singer contest. A graduate of the theatre program at Booker High School, she went on to study theatre at Florida International University in Miami. After Idol she took on the role of Deena Jones in the US national tour of Dreamgirls, which opened at Harlem's Apollo Theater in November 2009 and also played internationally in Japan. Mercado names Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston, Lauryn Hill, Etta James, Alicia Keys and Zap Mama as key influences, and that blend of classic soul, R&B and gospel shines through in her performances. She brings powerhouse vocals, Broadway-tested stage presence and genuine warmth to every show.
