Book Sublime

Sublime is the Long Beach, California, band that fused ska, punk, reggae and hip-hop into one of the defining sounds of 1990s rock. Formed in 1988 by singer and guitarist Bradley Nowell, bassist Eric Wilson and drummer Bud Gaugh, with Nowell's dalmatian Lou Dog as their mascot, they built a devoted following with the albums 40oz. to Freedom (1992) and Robbin' the Hood (1994) and joined the SnoCore Tour in 1996. Their self-titled third album, Sublime (1996), arrived two months after Nowell's death that year, which ended the original lineup. The record became their commercial breakthrough, peaking at number 13 on the Billboard 200, and "What I Got" and "Santeria" both reached number one on Billboard's Modern Rock Tracks chart. In 1997, radio embraced "Wrong Way", "Doin' Time" and "April 29, 1992 (Miami)" as well. The band's catalog spans four studio albums, a live album, five compilations, three EPs and a box set, with album sales passing 17 million worldwide by 2009. Their songs remain beach-party and festival staples, built for big summer singalongs.
