Book Steve Cherundolo

Steve Cherundolo is an American soccer coach and former right-back who spent his entire playing career with Hannover 96 in Germany and starred for the United States men's national team. He joined Hannover late in the 1998 to 1999 season, when the club was in the 2. Bundesliga, and quickly broke into the first team. He became a fixture at right-back, starting 30 of 34 games in 2001 to 2002 as Hannover won promotion to the Bundesliga, and he turned down a move to Bolton Wanderers in 2005 to stay in Germany. Named club captain ahead of the 2010 to 2011 season, he went on to set Hannover's record for Bundesliga appearances during the 2012 to 2013 campaign, and by 2013 no active player had been in the league longer. On the international stage he came through the U.S. under-18, under-20 and under-23 sides, earned his first senior cap in 1999, and played for his country at the 2006 and 2010 FIFA World Cups. Now head coach of the U.S. men's under-23 team, Cherundolo offers a rare insider's view of loyalty, leadership and success in European soccer.
