Salt-N-Pepa came together in New York City in 1985 and became hip-hop's best-known female trio, made up of Cheryl "Salt" James, Sandra "Pepa" Denton and DJ Spinderella, Deidra Roper. Their first album, Hot, Cool & Vicious, arrived in 1986 and spawned "Push It," which began as a B-side in 1987 and turned into a worldwide dance floor staple. They kept growing with A Salt With a Deadly Pepa in 1988, Blacks' Magic in 1990, Very Necessary in 1993 and Brand New in 1997, five studio albums in all. In 1995 the group won a Grammy Award for "None of Your Business," and they have five Grammy nominations overall. The Very Necessary 12 Play Tour took the music on the road in 1994. In 2018 they were part of the rotating lineup of I Love the '90s – The Vegas Show at Paris Las Vegas, a residency that also featured All-4-One, Rob Base, En Vogue, Kid 'n Play and Mark McGrath. Salt-N-Pepa bring a bold, party-ready mix of rap, attitude and humor that shaped how women are heard in the genre.
