Book Pete Escovedo
Pete Escovedo is an American percussionist from Pittsburg, California, and a towering figure in Latin jazz and Latin rock. Early on he teamed with his brothers in the Escovedo Bros Latin Jazz Sextet, and he and his brother Coke were later recruited by Carlos Santana to play in the band Santana. Escovedo went on to lead Azteca, a Latin big band of 14 to 24 musicians, recording Azteca (1972) and Pyramid of the Moon (1973) for Columbia. He made the albums Solo Two (1977) and Happy Together (1978) with his daughter, Sheila E, and continued with Island (1982), Yesterday's Memories Tomorrow's Dreams (1985), Mister E (1988), Flying South (1995), E Street (1997), E Music (2000), Live! (2003), Live from Stern Grove Festival (2013), Back to the Bay (2018) and Rhythm of the NIght (2021). He also ran the Berkeley nightclub Mr. E's in the late 1990s and has performed on Austin City Limits. In 2021 he and Sheila E were presented with the Latin Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, and he has also earned a Grammy nomination.
