Major Lazer is the dancehall-meets-EDM project behind "Lean On," the DJ Snake and MØ collaboration that became a global smash in 2015, and "Cold Water," featuring Justin Bieber and MØ. Diplo founded the group in 2008 with Switch, whom he met while both worked with M.I.A.; Jillionaire and Walshy Fire later joined, Ape Drums came aboard in 2019 and British-Jamaican vocalist America Foster joined in 2025. Their sound mixes reggae, dancehall, soca, reggaeton, house and moombahton. The group has released Guns Don't Kill People... Lazers Do (2009), Free the Universe (2013), Peace Is the Mission (2015), Music Is the Weapon (2020) and Piano Republik (2023), plus EPs such as Apocalypse Soon, with Pharrell Williams and Sean Paul, and Know No Better, featuring J Balvin, Camila Cabello, Travis Scott and Quavo. Peace Is the Mission also yielded "Powerful" with Ellie Goulding and Tarrus Riley. Major Lazer produced Reincarnated, Snoop Dogg's reggae album as Snoop Lion, and has earned a Grammy nomination. In 2018 Billboard placed the group fifth on its Billboard Dance 100 ranking of dance acts, and they took the Free the Universe show on a world tour in 2013.
