She soon sang the theme for the Televisa telenovela Mundo de juguete and took acting roles in productions including Ana del Aire, also singing and acting in Pacto de Amor. In 1978 she won the OTI Song Festival for Mexico, a major moment in her rise. Over the following decades she became one of Mexico's most beloved interpreters, recording albums such as Solo soy una mujer (1979), Canta Juan Gabriel y José Alfredo Jiménez (1991), La D'Alessio (1993) and Desde mi libertad (1994). In 2019 she received the Latin Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. Her concerts are emotional, heartfelt evenings built on soaring ballads and loyal, singing crowds.
