Book Lauren Ridloff
Lauren Ridloff is a Deaf American actress who made history in Eternals (2021), becoming the Marvel Cinematic Universe's first Deaf superhero. Her rise was swift and unexpected. A former teacher and a past Miss Deaf America, she studied at California State University, Northridge and earned a master's in education from Hunter College. She was tutoring director Kenny Leon in American Sign Language as he developed a Broadway revival of Children of a Lesser God when he asked her to fill in at an early read-through, and she ended up cast in the lead. The 2018 production brought her a Tony nomination for Best Actress in a Play, and she then joined The Walking Dead in its ninth season and appeared in the drama Sound of Metal. Earlier she had a brief part as an agent with superpowers in Sign Gene: The First Deaf Superheroes (2017), worked as a consultant on Wonderstruck (2017) before being cast in it, and appeared in the lyric video for John Legend's Love Me Now. She also champions projects that widen representation in entertainment.
