Laura Vandervoort is a Canadian actress with a devoted following among science fiction and fantasy fans. She is best known for playing Lisa on ABC's V (2009) and Kara Zor-El, Clark Kent's Kryptonian cousin and the future Supergirl, on The CW's Smallville. She began acting at 13, moving from background work to her first speaking roles on the YTV horror anthologies Goosebumps and Are You Afraid of the Dark?, along with the Disney Channel films Mom's Got a Date with a Vampire and Alley Cats Strike (both 2000). While studying psychology and English at York University, she landed the lead role of Sadie Harrison on the CTV teen drama Instant Star, which ran for four seasons. Her first feature film was The Lookout (2007) with Jeff Daniels and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and she also played the chilling Arla Cogan on Syfy's Haven. In 2014 she took the lead as werewolf Elena Michaels in Space's Bitten, adapted from Kelley Armstrong's Women of the Otherworld novels, and she later starred in the horror remake Rabid (2020). Vandervoort brings genre credibility and an easygoing rapport with fans to conventions and appearances.
