Book Kim Campbell

Kim Campbell is a Canadian stateswoman who served as the 19th Prime Minister of Canada in 1993, the first and only woman to hold the office. Before reaching the top job she broke several barriers: she was the first woman to serve as Canada's minister of justice and the first woman anywhere in NATO to run a national defence ministry. Campbell was elected to the British Columbia Legislative Assembly in 1986 and to the House of Commons in 1988, and under Brian Mulroney she held cabinet posts including justice and attorney general, veterans affairs and national defence between 1990 and 1993. She was also the first baby boomer to become prime minister and the only one born in British Columbia. A graduate of the University of British Columbia in political science, she has taught at Harvard University and chaired the advisory board for Supreme Court of Canada appointments. Her memoir Time and Chance (1996) recounts her political career. Her honors include being named a Companion of the Order of Canada, the Order of British Columbia (2012) and Canadian Newsmaker of the Year (1993). She speaks with candor on leadership, democracy and women in public life.
