Book Julie Newmar

Julie Newmar is an American actress, dancer and singer whose name is forever tied to one of television's most iconic villains: Catwoman, the feline foe she played for two seasons on Batman (1966-1967). Before television fame, she built a strong stage resume, taking home the Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Play for The Marriage-Go-Round on Broadway in 1958, a part she repeated in the 1961 screen adaptation, which brought her a Golden Globe nomination as a promising newcomer. Trained as a dancer, she began in films such as Serpent of the Nile (1953), The Band Wagon (1953) and Demetrius and the Gladiators (1954), and played one of the brides in Seven Brides for Seven Brothers (1954). Her stage credits also include Ziegfeld Follies, Lola in Damn Yankees and the title role in Irma la Douce. Pop culture kept embracing her, from George Michael's "Too Funky" video to a cameo in To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar (1995). Half a century after the original series, she voiced Catwoman again in Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders (2016) and Batman vs. Two-Face (2017). She also received the Inkpot Award in 2014.
