Book Julian Casablancas
Julian Casablancas is the New York singer and songwriter best known as the voice and chief writer of the Strokes, the band he helped start in 1998. Born in Manhattan in August 1978, the son of Elite Model Management founder John Casablancas, he led the group to sudden fame with the debut Is This It, an album that helped spark the early-2000s garage-rock revival. He shaped the follow-ups Room on Fire (2003) and First Impressions of Earth (2006) before the band moved to a more shared writing process on Angles (2011) and Comedown Machine (2013). The Strokes returned in 2020 with The New Abnormal, which brought the band its first Grammy win. Away from the Strokes, Casablancas issued the solo record Phrazes for the Young in 2009 and that same year launched the independent label Cult Records, whose roster has included Karen O, the Growlers and Rey Pila. He has also fronted, since 2014, the Voidz, an experimental rock project that has made three studio albums and gives him room to chase stranger, less commercial ideas.
