Book Gojira
Gojira is a heavy metal band from Ondres, France, started as Godzilla in 1996 and renamed in 2001. Brothers Joe Duplantier on vocals and guitar and Mario Duplantier on drums, guitarist Christian Andreu and bassist Jean-Michel Labadie have played together in the same lineup ever since. The band is known for crushing progressive and technical death metal riffs paired with lyrics about spirituality, philosophy and the environment. Early records Terra Incognita (2001) and The Link (2003) and ferocious live shows made their name at home, and From Mars to Sirius (2005), featuring "Flying Whales" and "Backbone", carried them abroad. After The Way of All Flesh (2008) they joined Roadrunner Records in 2011 and released L'Enfant Sauvage (2012), Magma (2016) and Fortitude (2021), the last of which made them the first French band to reach No. 1 on the Billboard Hard Rock Albums chart. They won the Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance in 2025 for "Mea Culpa (Ah! Ça ira!)", one of four career nominations, and have collected Metal Hammer Golden Gods Awards. By 2022 they were headlining arenas across Europe and South America, delivering a precise, thunderous show.
