Book Dorothy Hamill

Dorothy Hamill is a beloved name in American figure skating and the ladies' singles gold medalist at the 1976 Winter Olympics and the world champion that same year. Her rise began early: at just 12 she captured the novice ladies' crown at the U.S. Championships in 1969, and that spring she skated before a Madison Square Garden crowd on the touring exhibition later known as Champions on Ice. After her senior debut in 1971 she trained under the renowned coach Carlo Fassi and went on to hold the U.S. national title three years running, from 1974 to 1976. Along the way she earned world silver medals in 1974 in Munich and in 1975 in Colorado Springs, showing the grit to regroup after a tense moment on the ice in Germany. Beyond competition, Hamill has been recognized with a Daytime Emmy Award and was inducted into the Connecticut Women's Hall of Fame in 2007. Audiences know her for grace, warmth and a story of perseverance that still resonates with fans of the sport and anyone who loves an Olympic champion's journey.
