Book Delfeayo Marsalis

Delfeayo Marsalis is a New Orleans jazz trombonist, record producer and educator from a celebrated first family of American jazz. The son of pianist and teacher Ellis Marsalis Jr. and brother of Wynton, Branford and Jason Marsalis, he shared in the family's 2011 NEA Jazz Masters honor, the nation's top recognition for jazz artists. As a leader he has released albums including Pontius Pilate's Decision (1992), Musashi (1997), Sweet Thunder (2011), The Last Southern Gentlemen (2014), Make America Great Again! (2016) and Jazz Party (2020). Behind the glass, he is respected as a producer of acoustic jazz sessions and helped steer the sound of many recordings back toward natural, wood-toned bass and away from rock-style production. A Berklee College of Music graduate, he also completed a master's in jazz performance at the University of Louisville in 2004. In 2000 he founded the Uptown Music Theatre in New Orleans, which has trained hundreds of young people and staged original musicals. On stage he delivers swinging, good-humored New Orleans jazz with deep tradition and a bandleader's warmth.
