Book Dead Can Dance
Dead Can Dance is a British-Australian band led by Lisa Gerrard and Brendan Perry, who founded the group in Melbourne in 1981 before relocating to London the following year. Signed to the independent label 4AD, they started out near the gothic scene and soon developed a singular sound that weaves European medieval and Renaissance music together with ambient textures, darkwave and global folk traditions. Beginning with Spleen and Ideal in 1985, they helped pioneer the neoclassical darkwave style, and they deepened it on Within the Realm of a Dying Sun (1987), The Serpent’s Egg (1988) and Aion (1990). Their commercial high point, Into the Labyrinth (1993), reached the Billboard 200 and made them the biggest seller on 4AD's roster. Spiritchaser followed in 1996. After a split in 1998, the duo reunited for a world tour in 2005, came back again in 2011 to record and tour Anastasis (2012), and released Dionysus in 2018 before touring Europe in 2022. Concerts by Dead Can Dance are immersive, ritual-like experiences, built around Gerrard's otherworldly contralto, Perry's rich baritone and an arsenal of instruments from many cultures.
