Book Clannad

Clannad were a family band from Gweedore in County Donegal, started in 1970 by Moya, Ciarán and Pól Brennan together with their uncles, the twins Noel and Pádraig Duggan. They began by reworking traditional songs in Irish on acoustic instruments, then widened their palette with original English-language material, layered harmonies, keyboards and touches of rock, new age and Gregorian chant, becoming pioneers of the modern Celtic sound. Their sister Enya was part of the lineup from 1980 to 1982. The 1982 single "Theme from Harry's Game" brought international attention, and albums such as Crann Úll (1980), Fuaim (1982), Magical Ring (1983), Macalla (1985), Sirius (1987), Anam (1990), Banba (1993), Lore (1996) and Landmarks (1997) carried their music worldwide. Landmarks won the Grammy for Best New Age Album, one of three Grammy nominations, and the group also earned a BAFTA, an Ivor Novello Award and a Billboard Music Award. They regrouped in 2007, released Nádúr in 2013, and closed their story with the In a Lifetime farewell tour in 2020. Recording in six languages, Clannad carried Irish song and the Gaelic tongue to listeners worldwide with haunting, atmospheric performances.
