Cimafunk is the stage name of Erik Iglesias Rodríguez, a Cuban singer, songwriter and bandleader born in 1989 who fuses funk and hip-hop with Afro-Cuban and Afro-Caribbean rhythms into an irresistible party sound. He grew up singing in church in Pinar del Río and studied medicine for two years before moving to Havana in 2010 to follow music, working as a session arranger and producer for artists including Raúl Paz and Liuba María Hevia and spending two years as a member of Interactivo. Taking the name Cimafunk, a nod to Cuba's cimarróns, he set out to connect Afro-Cuban music with African American funk, drawing comparisons to James Brown. He self-released Terapia in 2017, followed by the single "Me Voy", and Billboard listed him among its Latin artists to watch in 2019, the year he toured the United States and Europe. During 2020 he issued the EP Cun Cun Prá, and El alimento (2021) featured George Clinton, Lupe Fiasco and CeeLo Green and earned a Grammy nomination. He followed with Pa’ tu cuerpa (2024) and Te Toca (2026), and has three Grammy nominations in all. Cimafunk brings sweaty, joyous, high-voltage live funk.
