Book Berlin Philharmonic
The Berlin Philharmonic, or Berliner Philharmoniker, is a German symphony orchestra founded in 1882 and based at the Philharmonie in Berlin. Its chief conductors include Hans von Bülow, Arthur Nikisch, Wilhelm Furtwängler, Herbert von Karajan, Claudio Abbado, Simon Rattle and, since 2019, Kirill Petrenko. The musicians elect their principal conductor, and the ensemble has recorded the standard symphonic repertoire for a century. Its Digital Concert Hall streams performances worldwide, and its annual Europakonzert on May 1 is broadcast from a different European landmark each year. Honors include the Herbert von Karajan Music Prize, the Charlemagne Medal for European Media, Echo Klassik recognition as Ensemble of the Year, a Classic Brit Award and the Berliner Bär. The orchestra also runs education programs and tours internationally, and its recordings number in the hundreds.
