Book André Rieu
André Rieu is a Dutch violinist, conductor and showman from Maastricht who founded the Johann Strauss Orchestra in 1987 and made the waltz into a modern arena spectacle. Playing a 1667 Stradivari violin, he leads an ensemble of about sixty musicians, singers and dancers through the music of Johann Strauss, film themes, operetta, folk songs and holiday favorites. His albums include Strauß & Co, Wiener Melange, Strauss Gala and Merry Christmas, and the catalog has grown to seventy-three titles. His hometown summer concerts at the Vrijthof square in Maastricht draw fans from around the world, and his tours play major arenas on several continents. Honors include the Charlemagne Medal for European Media, Goldene Stimmgabel awards, a Classic Brit Award, a knighthood in the Order of the Netherlands Lion and the Honour in Gold from Austria. The programs mix elegance, humor and spectacle.
