Book A Taste of Honey
A Taste of Honey is the Los Angeles band behind "Boogie Oogie Oogie," the 1978 disco smash that topped the US charts and still fills dance floors today. Bassist, singer and songwriter Janice-Marie Johnson and keyboardist Perry Kibble founded the group in 1972, and after years of honing their sound, including USO tours that took them across Europe, North Africa and Asia, they were discovered by Capitol Records. With Hazel Payne on vocals and guitar, Johnson led the band to its self-titled debut, A Taste of Honey (1978), and the group won the Grammy Award for Best New Artist in 1979, a rare honor for a disco act. Further albums followed with Another Taste (1979), Twice as Sweet (1980) and Ladies of the Eighties (1982). Johnson also recorded as a solo artist, releasing One Taste of Honey, and in 2004 she and Payne reunited for the PBS specials Get Down Tonight: The Disco Explosion and My Music: Funky Soul Superstars. In 2022 the band, led by Johnson, began celebrating 50 years in music. A Taste of Honey delivers funky bass grooves, sweet harmonies and pure disco celebration.
