Book Ziggy Marley and the Melody Makers
This reggae family band from Jamaica and the United States featured four children of Bob and Rita Marley: lead singer Ziggy with Sharon, Cedella and Stephen. The siblings first recorded together in 1979 on "Children Playing in the Streets," a song their father wrote for them, with all royalties pledged to the United Nations in support of the International Year of the Child. They released nine studio albums, beginning with Play the Game Right (1985) and Hey World! (1986). Conscious Party (1988), with the hits "Tomorrow People" and "Tumblin' Down," brought them mainstream recognition, then One Bright Day (1989), Jahmekya (1991), Joy and Blues (1993), Free Like We Want 2 B (1995), Fallen Is Babylon (1997) and Spirit of Music (1999). The group won three Grammy Awards for Best Reggae Album. In 1996 they performed the theme for the cartoon series Arthur, and in 2000 they toured worldwide behind a live DVD released the next year. Their pop-minded reggae kept the family legacy alive for a new generation.
