Book Yonder Mountain String Band
Hailing from the mountain town of Nederland, Colorado, Yonder Mountain String Band is a progressive bluegrass outfit that built a devoted following in both bluegrass and jam band circles. Formed in December 1998 by banjo player Dave Johnston, mandolinist Jeff Austin, bassist Ben Kaufmann and guitarist Adam Aijala, the band released its debut album Elevation in 1999 on its own Frog Pad Records label. Early hometown shows at NedFest led to bigger rooms such as The Fillmore in San Francisco. Their catalog includes Town by Town (2001), Old Hands (2003), a self-titled album (2006), The Show (2009), Black Sheep (2015), Love. Ain't Love (2017), Get Yourself Outside (2022), Nowhere Next (2024) and Good as True (2026). The band has earned a Grammy nomination, recorded Think for Yourself for the Beatles tribute This Bird Has Flown – A 40th Anniversary Tribute to the Beatles' Rubber Soul, and played the 2008 Democratic National Convention in Denver. Today's lineup of Johnston, Kaufmann, Aijala, Nick Piccininni and Coleman Smith delivers fast picking, long improvisations and high-energy festival shows.
