Book War
War is a funk, soul and Latin-flavored rock band from Long Beach, California, that took shape in 1969 when keyboardist Lonnie Jordan, guitarist Howard Scott and their bandmates joined forces with Eric Burdon. Their first hit was "Spill the Wine" from the 1970 album Eric Burdon Declares "War," after which the band continued on its own and became one of the defining multiracial groups of the 1970s. Its catalog includes "Slippin' into Darkness," "The Cisco Kid," "Summer," "Why Can't We Be Friends?" and "Low Rider," a lowrider anthem still heard at car shows and sports arenas. The World Is a Ghetto in 1972 and Why Can't We Be Friends? in 1975 are essential albums. Grammy.com lists two nominations. Led by Jordan, War remains a party-starting, groove-heavy live act for festivals, fairs and private events.
