Book Ugly Kid Joe
Ugly Kid Joe are the California hard rock band behind the 1990s hits "Everything About You" and their cover of Harry Chapin's "Cats in the Cradle." Childhood friends Whitfield Crane and Klaus Eichstadt grew up in Palo Alto, and in 1989 Eichstadt and Dane Lambert joined Crane's band in the college town of Isla Vista, recording a demo with Palo Alto producer Eric Valentine. Known first as Overdrive and then by a ruder name, the group became Ugly Kid Joe as a spoof of the Los Angeles glam band Pretty Boy Floyd. After several lineup changes they signed with Mercury Records in 1991. Their debut EP, As Ugly as They Wanna Be (1991), featured "Everything About You," which also appeared in the film Wayne's World, and their first full-length album, America's Least Wanted (1992), included "Cats in the Cradle." Menace to Sobriety (1995) and Motel California (1996) followed before the band split in 1997. Ugly Kid Joe reunited in 2010, releasing Uglier Than They Used ta Be (2015) and Rad Wings of Destiny (2022).
