Book Toots & The Maytals
Toots and the Maytals is a Jamaican vocal group formed in Kingston in the early 1960s around singer Frederick "Toots" Hibbert, whose gospel-powered voice helped carry ska, rocksteady and reggae to the world. Their 1968 single "Do the Reggay" gave the genre its name, and songs like "54-46 That's My Number," "Pressure Drop," "Monkey Man," "Sweet and Dandy" and "Funky Kingston" became classics. Albums include Funky Kingston, Reggae Got Soul, Pass the Pipe and True Love, which won the Grammy for Best Reggae Album, followed by Got to Be Tough in 2020 and The Mighty Rootsmen in 2025. Hibbert died in 2020, and the group continues to tour with his daughter Leba Hibbert as lead singer, bringing the band's joyful, soulful sound to festivals and theaters.
