Book Tim Flannery

Tim Flannery is an Australian scientist, explorer and author who has become one of the world's most recognized voices on climate change. Trained as a mammalogist and palaeontologist, he specialised in fossil marsupials and mammal evolution, and as the Australian Museum's mammal curator he surveyed Melanesia and identified 17 species new to science. He has held roles at Harvard University, the University of Adelaide, Macquarie University and La Trobe University. His books reached a wide public: The Future Eaters (1994), a natural history of Australia later adapted for television, The Weather Makers (2005) on climate change, plus Throwim Way Leg and Chasing Kangaroos (2007). He was named Australian of the Year in 2007 for his environmental work. In 2011 he became Chief Commissioner of the federal Climate Commission, and after it was abolished in 2013 he helped launch the independent Climate Council. His honors include the Colin Roderick Award (1996), the Leidy Award (2010), Fellowship of the Australian Academy of Science (2012) and a Whitley Award (2024). Flannery pairs field science with vivid storytelling about the planet's future.
