Book Thomas Friedman

Thomas L. Friedman is an American author and longtime foreign affairs columnist for The New York Times, and a three-time winner of the Pulitzer Prize. He started with United Press International in London before being posted to Beirut, where he covered the Lebanese civil war from 1979 to 1981. Hired by the Times in 1981, he returned to Beirut during the 1982 Israeli invasion, reporting that earned his first Pulitzer for international reporting in 1983 and a George Polk Award. As the paper's Jerusalem bureau chief from 1984 to 1988, he won a second Pulitzer for his coverage of the First Intifada, and his account of those years, From Beirut to Jerusalem, received the 1989 National Book Award for Nonfiction. A third Pulitzer followed in 2002, this time for commentary. His books on globalization, technology and the environment include The Lexus and the Olive Tree (1999), Longitudes and Attitudes (2002), Hot, Flat, and Crowded (2008) and That Used to Be Us (2011). He also won the 2009 Carl Sagan Award. Friedman is a lively, big-picture speaker on world affairs, trade, the Middle East and the forces shaping the global economy.
