Book The O'Jays
The O'Jays are an American R&B vocal group from Canton, Ohio, formed in 1958 by Eddie Levert, Bobby Massey, Bill Isles, William Powell and Walter Williams when they were students at Canton McKinley High School. Named in tribute to Cleveland disc jockey Eddie O'Jay, they first reached the Billboard Hot 100 with "Lonely Drifter" in 1963 and released their debut album, Comin' Through, soon after. Their golden era began in 1971 when producers Gamble & Huff signed them to Philadelphia International, and the group became a leading voice of Philadelphia soul with "Back Stabbers" (1972) and the chart-topping "Love Train" the following year. Albums such as Ship Ahoy (1973), Survival, Family Reunion and Identify Yourself kept the hits flowing, and their recording career continued through Emotionally Yours (1991), Heartbreaker (1993) and The Last Word (2019). They were inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 2004, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2005 and a rhythm-and-blues hall of fame in 2013, and an American Music Award. Their concerts are soulful, sing-along celebrations of timeless hits.
