Book The Lords of 52nd Street
The Lords of 52nd Street are the American rock band made up largely of the musicians who backed Billy Joel during his rise to superstardom. The group is led by three alumni of the Billy Joel Band: multi-instrumentalist and saxophonist Richie Cannata, drummer Liberty DeVitto and guitarist Russell Javors. Together with the late bassist Doug Stegmeyer, they formed the core of Joel's studio and touring band from 1976, when Turnstiles was recorded, through the Glass Houses tour in 1981. During that stretch Joel landed several Billboard top ten albums, including The Stranger (1977) and 52nd Street (1978). Cannata later returned for the River of Dreams sessions in 1993, while DeVitto stayed with Joel until 2006. Today the lineup also includes pianist and lead singer Dan Orlando, bassist Malcolm Gold, guitarist Dennis DelGaudio and keyboardist Doug Kistner. The band was inducted into the Long Island Music Hall of Fame in 2014. Their shows recreate the classic Joel sound with the players who first put it on record.
